Argentina Trade Surplus Sharply Expands in January

Argentina’s trade surplus widened sharply to USD 1,987 million in January 2026, compared with USD 162 million in January 2025. Imports declined 11.9% year-on-year to USD 5,070 million, reflecting a 12.1% drop in volumes and a marginal 0.2% increase in prices. By contrast, exports rose 19.3% to USD 7,057 million, driven by an 18.5% increase in volumes and a 0.7% rise in prices. As a result, the cumulative trade surplus for the year through January 2026 reached USD 1,987 million, significantly higher than the USD 162 million recorded in the same period of 2025.
