Greece Jobless Rate Lowest Since 2008

Greece’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged down to 7.7% in January 2026, from an upwardly revised 7.9% in December, reaching its lowest level since November 2008. The number of unemployed persons fell by 4 thousand compared with the previous month, to 369.1 thousand.

However, unemployment remained markedly higher among women than men, at 10.5% versus 5.4%. The number of people outside the labour force (persons under 75 who are neither working nor seeking work) also declined, falling by 23 thousand to 2,962.9 thousand.

By contrast, youth unemployment (ages 15–24) increased, rising to 16% from 13% in December. Overall employment continued to expand, with the number of employed persons up by 24 thousand, bringing total employment to approximately 4,401.7 thousand.
