Romania’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate slipped to 6% in January 2026, down from an upwardly revised 6.1% in December, marking its lowest level since September 2025. The number of unemployed persons fell by 8 thousand compared with the previous month, reaching 490.5 thousand. By gender, the unemployment rate for men held steady at 6%, while the rate for women declined to 5.9% from 6.2% in December. Among individuals aged 25–74, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate eased to 4.5% in January from 4.7% a month earlier. In January 2025, the overall unemployment rate was also 6%.
