Sweden New Orders Fall for 1st Time in 8 Months

Total orders received by Swedish industry decreased by 3.9% year-on-year in January 2026, after a downwardly revised 6.6% increase in December. This was the first annual decline since May of the previous year and reflected weaker demand both at home and abroad. Growth in orders for non-durable consumer goods also softened, to 1.5% from 3.5%. In contrast, orders for energy-related goods rebounded, increasing 8.2% after an 8.7% decline, and demand for durable consumer goods recovered, rising 2.7% after a 5.4% fall. Orders for capital goods continued to strengthen, climbing 12.2% following a 4.5% gain in December.

On a monthly basis, total new orders fell by 5.5% in January, following a downwardly revised 7.5% drop in the previous month.
