Malawi Inflation Rate Eased in January

Malawi’s annual inflation rate slowed to 24.1% in February 2026, the lowest level since July 2022, from 24.9% in January. The deceleration was driven primarily by a drop in food inflation, which declined to 20.8% from 22.1% a month earlier. In contrast, non-food inflation inched up to 30% from 29.8%, reflecting stronger price pressures in housing and utilities, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, and transport, largely due to higher fuel costs. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 3.2%, easing from a 3.7% rise in the previous month.
