The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index rose 0.5% to 2,038 on Monday, extending gains after a 2.8% increase in the previous session. The capesize index, which reflects rates for vessels typically transporting 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, climbed 1.6% to 2,927. In contrast, the panamax index, tracking ships that usually carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, inched down 0.1% to 1,836, while the supramax index declined 1.2% to 1,268.
