Austria Inflation Rate Confirmed at 2.2%

Austria’s annual inflation rate edged up to 2.2% in February 2026 from 2% in January, a thirteen-month low, confirming preliminary estimates. Services remained the main driver of price growth, with restaurant and accommodation costs rising by 5.1%. Tobacco prices also saw a sharp increase of 8.8%. Food inflation stood at 2.4%, slightly above the overall rate, largely reflecting strong annual price gains for coffee.

Transport prices rose by 0.8% despite a 5.1% decline in fuel costs. At the same time, household energy and fuel exerted a weaker dampening effect on inflation, with electricity prices down 7.6%, liquid fuels 7.2% lower, and gas prices falling by 1%.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices climbed 0.8% in February, the largest increase since January 2025 and a rebound from the 0.7% decline recorded in the previous month. The harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) increased by 2.3% year-on-year and by 0.8% month-on-month.
