Industrial production in Moldova increased by 8.6% year-on-year in January 2026, slowing from a 9.3% rise in December 2025. Growth in the manufacturing sector decelerated sharply (5.9% vs 19.3% in December), reflecting weaker output in several key segments: food products (16.3% vs 28%), beverages (-13% vs 79.6%), textiles (15% vs 29.1%), rubber and plastic products (0.9% vs 28.7%), and electrical equipment (-7.9% vs 6.1%). Production in mining and quarrying also fell steeply (-63.4% vs 42.8%). By contrast, activity rebounded in the electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply sector (21.5% vs -8.4%). On a monthly basis, industrial output dropped 25.2%, reversing a 13.7% gain in the previous month and registering its weakest performance since January 2022.
