Slovak Current Account Gap Narrows in January

Slovakia’s current account posted a deficit of €489.8 million in January 2026, narrowing from €692.4 million in the same month a year earlier. The goods account shortfall shrank to €82 million from €253.4 million in January 2025, and the primary income deficit also eased to €307.3 million from €350.6 million.

By contrast, the services account surplus declined to €23.9 million from €26.9 million, while the secondary income deficit widened to €124.4 million from €115.3 million.

For 2025 as a whole, Slovakia’s current account deficit fell to €4.95 billion, compared with €6.02 billion in 2024.
