Argentina Retail Sales Growth Rises the Most in 5 Months

Argentina’s retail sales climbed 20.7% year-on-year in January 2026, reaching ARS 512,721.5 million. This marked an acceleration from the 16.1% increase recorded in December and represented the strongest annual rise since August.

At current prices, the largest increases were seen in amoblamientos, decoración y textiles para el hogar (furniture, decor, and home textiles), up 44.0%; patio de comidas, alimentos y kioscos (food courts, food products, and kiosks), up 35.4%; perfumería y farmacia (perfume and pharmacy), up 34.3%; and librería y papelería (bookstores and stationery), up 29.3%.

By region, sales in the City of Buenos Aires advanced 23.8% to ARS 139,315.2 million, while Greater Buenos Aires recorded a 21.8% increase to ARS 308,450.9 million.

In real terms, however, and measured at constant prices, retail sales edged down 0.1% year-on-year to ARS 5,676.8 million.
