Namibia Economy Contracts in Q4

Namibia’s economy contracted by 0.5% year-on-year in Q4 2025, its first decline since Q1 2021, after an upwardly revised 2.6% expansion in the previous quarter. The main drag came from mining and quarrying, which slumped 28.8% (vs -5.5% in Q3), followed by manufacturing, down 5.1% (vs +2.6%), and financial service activities, which fell 1% (vs +2.3%).

By contrast, several sectors recorded robust growth, including construction (23.4% vs 12.2% in Q3); utilities (12.5% vs 20.3%); wholesale and retail trade (9.5% vs 7.7%); information and communication (8.4% vs 13.3%); health (6% vs 3.9%); and hotels and restaurants (5.3% vs -0.8%).

On a quarterly basis, GDP grew by 6.4% in Q4, rebounding from a revised 2.1% decline in the previous quarter. For the full year, Namibia’s economic growth slowed to 1.7% in 2025, down from an upwardly revised 3.8% in 2024, largely due to weak performance in both the primary and secondary sectors.
