Retail sales in Greece increased by 4.5% year-on-year in January 2026, following a downwardly revised 4.7% rise in December. This was the fourth consecutive monthly expansion in retail activity and remained robust in pace.
Stronger sales were recorded in supermarkets (10.4%); books, stationery and other goods (9.4%); furniture, electrical and household equipment (8.6%); pharmaceutical products and cosmetics (7.6%); and food, beverages and tobacco (4.1%).
In contrast, sales declined in clothing and footwear (-3.0%) and automotive fuel (-2.3%). On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, total retail sales increased by 0.9%.
