The Chicago Business Barometer declined to 52.8 in March 2026, down from 57.7 in February, when it had reached a near four-year high and below market expectations of 55. While the index signaled a third consecutive month of expansion in Chicago’s economic activity, the data also indicated a marked deceleration in the pace of growth from the previous month.
