Taiwan Exports Soar to Record High

Exports from Taiwan surged 61.8% year-on-year to a record high of USD 80.18 billion in March 2026, far exceeding market expectations of 33.2% and accelerating sharply from February’s 20.6% gain. The robust performance was largely fueled by a 134.5% jump in shipments of information, communication, and audio-video products, along with strong increases in exports of electronic parts (44%) and machinery (16.3%). By contrast, exports of base metals and related articles fell 7.4%, while chemical shipments declined 2.7%.

By destination, export growth was strongest to the United States, where shipments soared 124% following a recent agreement that reduced US tariffs on many Taiwanese goods from 20% to 15%. Exports to Mainland China and Hong Kong also expanded solidly, rising 27.4%, while shipments to ASEAN economies climbed 59.8%.

For the first quarter as a whole, total exports amounted to USD 195.74 billion, an increase of 51.1% compared with the same period a year earlier.
