Rice Futures Hover Around 1-Month Low

Rice futures hovered around $10.90 per hundredweight, close to their lowest level since early March, as expectations of ample supply outweighed concerns over rising logistical costs and escalating geopolitical risks. In its April monthly report, the USDA projected higher global rice supplies for 2025/26, driven primarily by increased production in Thailand, along with softer consumption and larger ending stocks. The outlook for the US rice market pointed to steady overall supplies but weaker domestic use, reduced exports, and consequently higher ending stocks. Meanwhile, data released on March 31 showed that US rice planting intentions for 2026 signal a marked reduction in planted acreage, reflecting ongoing climate-related challenges, rising production costs, and persistent uncertainty in the global market.
