Hungary’s construction output declined by 0.4% year-on-year in February 2026, a marked improvement from the 11.4% contraction recorded in January. The easing in the overall downturn was primarily due to a recovery in building construction, which grew by 2.2% after a 9.6% drop in the previous month. The slump in civil engineering also moderated, with output shrinking by 6.3% compared with a 14.5% decline in January. Within civil engineering, a 37.6% surge in road and railway construction was partially offset by a 41.6% plunge in utility projects. On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, construction output rose 4.9% in February, rebounding strongly from an 8.7% decrease in January. For the January–February period as a whole, Hungary’s construction activity fell by 5.7%.
