Bulgaria Trade Deficit Widens in February

Bulgaria’s trade deficit widened to EUR 810.7 million in February 2026, up from EUR 484.1 million in the same month a year earlier, as imports grew much faster than exports. Total imports rose 8.2% year-on-year to EUR 4,357.8 million, supported by higher purchases from both EU countries (up 3.3%) and non-EU markets (up 15.8%).

By contrast, exports were almost flat, edging up just 0.1% to EUR 3,547.1 million. A 4.9% increase in shipments to EU partners was largely offset by an 8.0% decline in exports to non-EU destinations.

Over the January–February period, the trade deficit widened to EUR 1,856.7 million from EUR 1,476.4 million a year earlier. The deterioration reflected a 0.6% drop in exports alongside a 4.0% increase in imports.
