Argentina's CPI Accelerates in March

Consumer prices in Argentina increased by 3.4% month-on-month in March 2026, up from 2.9% in February and above market expectations of 3%. Regulated prices drove the overall rise, advancing 5.1% amid adjustments to utility, transport, and education tariffs. Core inflation followed with a 3.2% gain, while seasonal prices rose 1.0%, as higher tourism and clothing costs more than offset declines in vegetable and fruit prices.

Among the main expenditure divisions, education recorded the sharpest monthly increase at 12.1%, in line with the start of the school year. Transport prices climbed 4.1%, led by higher fuel prices, public transport fares, and airfares. Food and non-alcoholic beverages exerted the greatest impact across regions, particularly in Greater Buenos Aires, where meat and meat products rose 6.9%.

At the other end of the spectrum, miscellaneous goods and services registered the smallest increase, at 1.7%, followed by household equipment and maintenance, which rose 1.3%. Cumulative inflation for the year reached 9.4%.
