Macau Inflation Rate Eases in March

Macau’s annual inflation rate eased to 1.06% in March 2026, down from a two-year high of 1.16% in February. The slowdown was mainly driven by lower inflation in transport (1.89% vs 2.36% in February), housing and fuels (0.34% vs 0.37%), and recreation, sport and culture (3.02% vs 7.76%). Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco declined (-0.26% vs a 0.13% increase previously), while education costs were unchanged at 1.14%.

At the same time, several categories saw faster price growth, including food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.12% vs 0.92%), clothing and footwear (1.66% vs 1.02%), household furnishings and services (0.83% vs 0.45%), health (0.72% vs 0.46%), information and communication (0.23% vs 0.16%), and miscellaneous goods and services (3.12% vs 3.04%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.18% in March, reversing a 0.42% rise in February and marking the first month-on-month decline in consumer prices since May 2025.
