Baltic Dry Index Rises for 2nd Day

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, rose for a second consecutive session on Tuesday, gaining 11 points to reach 2,677. The advance was supported by higher rates across all vessel segments. The capesize index, reflecting earnings for ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, climbed 22 points to 4,304. The panamax index, covering vessels that usually transport 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, added 9 points to reach 1,966. Among the smaller segments, the supramax index edged up 2 points to 1,542.
