German Unemployment Edges Down in April, Signalling Slight Labor Market Improvement

Germany’s non-seasonally adjusted unemployment fell modestly in April 2026, suggesting a slight easing of pressure in the labor market.

According to the latest data updated on 30 April 2026, the number of unemployed people declined to 3.008 million in April from 3.021 million in March 2026. While the change is relatively small, it marks a continuation of a downward move in headline unemployment figures on a month-to-month basis.

The April reading indicates that, at least on an unadjusted basis, the German labor market showed mild improvement heading into the second quarter of 2026, with total unemployment numbers inching lower compared with the previous month.
