Italian GDP Growth Cools Slightly to 0.2% in Q1 2026

Italy’s economic growth eased at the start of 2026, with gross domestic product expanding by 0.2% in the first quarter on a quarter-over-quarter basis, down from 0.3% in the previous quarter. The latest figures, updated on 30 April 2026, indicate a modest loss of momentum compared with the fourth quarter of 2025.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, the Italian economy had grown by 0.3% versus the third quarter, providing a slightly stronger performance than the current reading. The quarter-over-quarter comparison highlights that while Italy remains on a growth path, the pace has marginally slowed moving into 2026.

The data suggest that the Italian economy continues to expand, but at a more measured rate, with the current 0.2% rise in Q1 2026 representing a softer follow-up to the 0.3% advance recorded at the end of 2025.
