Hungary’s construction output increased by 3.9% year-on-year in March 2026, rebounding from a downwardly revised 1.1% decline in February. Civil engineering works grew by 3.0%, recovering from a 7.7% drop in the previous month, largely supported by a 7.3% rise in specialised construction activities. Building construction also strengthened, with output expanding by 4.4%, up from 1.7% in February. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, total construction output rose by 0.5% in March. However, for the first quarter of 2026 as a whole, total construction output was still down 4.2% compared with the same period a year earlier, as building construction and civil engineering output fell by 1.6% and 9.4%, respectively.
