Macau Jobless Rate Edges Up to 1.8%

Macau’s unemployment rate rose to 1.8% in the three months ending April 2026, up from 1.6% in the previous period. The number of unemployed people increased by 300 to 6,500, while total employment declined by 2,400 to 374,600.

Among local residents, employment growth was concentrated in hotels and related services, as well as in the transport and storage sector. In contrast, job losses were recorded in wholesale and retail trade, real estate and business services, and the gaming industry.

The overall labor force participation rate slipped to 66.4%, down from 66.7% in the preceding period. By gender, participation among local residents decreased for both men (to 64.1% from 64.4%) and women (to 59.0% from 59.3%).
