The TAIEX, Taiwan’s benchmark stock index, climbed 605 points, or 1.4%, to close at 45,338 on Monday, extending the previous session’s gains. The advance was driven mainly by electronic technology and technology services shares. The broader index notched a fresh record high and, for the first time, broke through the 45,000 mark, as sustained optimism over artificial intelligence (AI) demand continued to buoy market sentiment.
Momentum from Wall Street’s rally on Friday also supported the local market, with US technology stocks rising on ongoing enthusiasm for AI-related investments. Within the TAIEX, electronic technology stocks added 1.2%, led by MediaTek, which jumped 5.7%, while Hon Hai Precision Industry rose 1.6%. By contrast, shares of TSMC—the world’s largest contract chipmaker and a heavyweight that represents more than 40% of the market’s total capitalization—finished flat after gaining 2.6% on Friday.
Technology services stocks advanced 2.1%, with Wiwynn Corp. up 2.6%. On the macroeconomic side, Taiwan’s manufacturing sector expanded in May 2026 at its fastest pace since August 2021, underpinned by stronger demand.
