Germany’s S&P Global Manufacturing PMI was revised up to 50.1 in May 2026 from a preliminary estimate of 49.9, signaling an almost stable manufacturing sector. However, the reading was still the lowest in four months. Uncertainty and sharply rising costs linked to the war in the Middle East continued to weigh on demand. Goods producers reported their first decline in new orders of 2026 and faced the steepest increase in input prices since June 2022. At the same time, output growth slowed for a second consecutive month and job cuts intensified. Business expectations remained subdued overall, though they edged up slightly from April’s recent low.
