Portugal Industrial Production Flat in April as Energy Output Plunges

Portugal's industrial production was flat in April 2026 compared with the same month a year earlier, a sharp slowdown from the upwardly revised 4.1% expansion recorded in March. The deceleration was largely driven by a 17.2% slump in energy output, reflecting a drop in electricity production. Excluding the energy component, industrial production still grew but at a slower pace, easing to 3.8% from 6.0% in the previous month. Growth also weakened across other major categories: consumer goods (3.6% vs. 4.4% in March), intermediate goods (4.9% vs. 6.8%), and capital goods (2.1% vs. 7.3%). On a month-on-month basis, industrial activity fell by 2.6% in April, following a revised 4.3% increase in March.
