Czech Construction Output at 5-Month High

Construction output in the Czech Republic increased by 7.7% year-on-year in April 2026, accelerating from an upwardly revised 6.4% rise in March and marking the fastest expansion since November 2025. Building construction activity strengthened notably, with output up 12.1% compared with 9.4% in the previous month, while the decline in civil engineering works eased slightly to 0.4% from 0.5%.

A total of 5,889 building permits were issued in April, an increase of 14.7% from a year earlier, and the total floor area of new construction projects expanded by 40.3%. Housing starts surged by 89.7% to 5,100 units, driven by the construction of family houses and a higher number of permits for large residential developments, particularly in Prague. In contrast, completed dwellings declined by 10.7% year-on-year to 2,582 units.

On a month-on-month basis, total construction output grew by 0.6% in April, slowing from a 1.0% increase in March.
