The Czech unemployment rate inched down to 4.8% in May 2026 from 4.9% in April, matching market expectations. This was the lowest reading since December 2025, supported by ongoing seasonal hiring and a continuing economic recovery. The number of unemployed people decreased by 5,620 from the previous month to 358,852, although this figure was still 42,792 higher than in the same period a year earlier. At the same time, nearly 42% of newly employed job seekers became self-employed, with men accounting for 76.5% of this group and women for 23.5%. The number of registered job vacancies edged down by 103 compared with the previous month, to 94,380.
