North Macedonia Inflation Eases in May

The annual inflation rate in North Macedonia eased to 4.8% in May 2026, down from a two-year high of 5.7% in April. Price growth slowed for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.7% vs. 8% in April), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (9.3% vs. 10.2%), furnishings and household equipment (4.9% vs. 5%), and miscellaneous goods and services (2.1% vs. 4.3%).

At the same time, prices were unchanged for housing and utilities (2.9%), health (1.8%), education (4.6%), and insurance and financial services (1.7%).

By contrast, inflation accelerated for clothing and footwear (2.2% vs. 1.6%), transportation (11% vs. 5.4%), information and communication (2.8% vs. 2%), recreation and culture (5.5% vs. 5.4%), and restaurants and hotels (5% vs. 4.3%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.6% in May, after a 1.3% increase in the previous month.
