Car production in Mexico declined by 3.7% year-on-year to 342,926 units in May 2026, marking the steepest drop in six months. This downturn reflects ongoing volatility in the sector, as a succession of tariffs and trade agreements between Mexico and the United States—Mexico’s largest export market for automobiles—has left manufacturers uncertain about how to plan and expand capacity. Output fell sharply at several major producers, including Ford (-13.6% to 36,346 units), Nissan (-23.6% to 46,573 units), and Audi (-14.5% to 11,968 units).
