Egypt Inflation Rate at 3-Month Low of 14.6%

Egypt’s annual urban inflation eased to 14.6% in May 2026 from 14.9% in April, coming in just above market forecasts of 14.5%. This marked the lowest inflation rate since February, reflecting the continued fading impact of earlier fuel price hikes. In early March, Egypt raised fuel prices by about 14% to 17% across a broad range of petroleum products—its first increase of the year—amid a surge in global oil prices. On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) rose 1.6%, accelerating from a 1.1% increase in the previous month.
