Slovakia Industrial Output Drops Faster in April

Industrial production in Slovakia fell by 3.2% year-on-year in April 2026, a slightly smaller decline than market expectations of a 3.5% drop, but a sharper fall than March’s mildly revised 0.8% decrease. This was the third consecutive monthly contraction in industrial activity and the deepest in the current downturn, with output declining in 10 of the 15 monitored industrial sectors.

The manufacture of transport equipment remained the main drag on overall production, with output down 5.4% (compared with a 5.3% decline in March). It was followed by an 8.1% fall (vs -4.1% in March) in the manufacture of basic metals and an 11.4% decrease (vs -45.7%) in coke and refined petroleum products. These declines were partly offset by continued growth in the manufacture of electrical equipment, up 5% (vs 9.8%), and in machinery and equipment, up 3.4% (vs 3.2%). On a seasonally adjusted basis, overall industrial production was unchanged from the previous month.
