Moldova Inflation Rate Steady at 6.8% in May

In May 2026, Moldova’s annual inflation rate held steady at 6.8%, unchanged from April and remaining at its highest level since December 2025. Price growth for non-food goods accelerated slightly to 7.2% from 7.1% in April, driven mainly by higher costs for fuels and motor fuels, footwear, carpets and other floor coverings, as well as medicines. Service prices also rose at a faster pace, with annual growth edging up to 7.5% from 6.9%, supported by higher tariffs for urban and air passenger transport, regulated electricity supply, rent, education, and public catering services. By contrast, food inflation eased to 5.7% from 6.3% a month earlier, reflecting notable price declines for vegetables, fresh fruit, and eggs, even as prices for fish and canned fish, dairy products, and alcoholic beverages continued to climb. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.4% in May, down from a 1.8% increase in April.
