Consumer prices in Brazil increased 0.41% month-over-month in the first half of June 2026, down from 0.62% in May and slightly below market expectations of 0.44%. Food and beverage inflation eased to 0.74% from 1.38%, reflecting a slowdown in prices of food consumed at home, which rose 0.87% after a 1.73% increase in the previous period. Housing inflation also moderated, slipping to 0.72% from 1.03% in May. In the health and personal care category, prices climbed 0.47%, a notable deceleration from 1.05% in the prior month. Transportation costs declined 0.03%, following a 0.33% drop in May, as lower fuel prices offset higher airfares and public transport fares. Among regions, Brasília recorded the sharpest increase at 0.93%, driven mainly by airfares and gasoline, while Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, and Salvador posted the lowest inflation rates, each at 0.28%. As a result, mid-month inflation reached 3.45% year-to-date and 4.80% over the past 12 months.
