North Macedonia’s retail sales increased by 7.3% year-on-year in May 2026, picking up from a 2.1% rise in April. The strongest contribution came from automotive fuel, with sales surging 36.2% after a 14.7% gain in the previous month. Retail trade excluding fuel grew by 6.0%, edging down from 6.2% in April. Sales of food, beverages, and tobacco accelerated sharply, climbing 15.0% compared with 9.1% previously, while non-food sales excluding fuel declined 3.6%, reversing a 1.6% increase recorded in April.
