Sensex Advances for 4th Day

India’s BSE Sensex closed about 0.7% higher at 78,285 on Monday, its strongest finish since early May and its fourth consecutive session of gains. Sentiment was supported by softer crude oil prices, expectations of greater stability in the Middle East, renewed foreign portfolio inflows, and upbeat pre-quarterly business updates from major lenders. Additionally, heavy rainfall over the weekend bolstered optimism about the overall monsoon outlook.

Index heavyweight HDFC Bank jumped 3.6%, emerging as the top gainer after reporting robust Q1 FY27 growth in both deposits and advances, alongside positive commentary from several brokerages. A number of other banks also advanced after releasing business updates over the weekend. In contrast, Kotak Mahindra Bank fell 3.9% following relatively subdued growth for the April–June quarter.

Among other notable movers, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharat Electronics, Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, and Bharti Airtel rose by roughly 1–2%. Technology stocks, however, remained muted as investors turned cautious ahead of the first-quarter earnings season kicking off later this week.
