New Zealand Credit Card Spending Falls 1.4% in June

Seasonally adjusted electronic card transactions in New Zealand fell by 1.4% month-on-month in June 2026, following a downwardly revised 1.6% drop in May. The latest decline was driven by weaker spending in hospitality (-1.9% vs 1.4% in May), durables (-3.9% vs 3.2%), and apparel (-2.2% vs 3.0%). Fuel expenditure also continued to contract, reflecting the ongoing impact of the Middle East conflict (-1.7% vs -1.5%).
