Cape Verde Inflation Rate Hits 5-Month High of 1.1%

Cape Verde’s annual inflation rate accelerated for the second consecutive month, reaching 1.1% in June 2026, up from 0.8% in May and marking its highest level since January. The increase was driven by higher prices in several CPI categories, notably transportation (5.4% vs. 3.4% in May), clothing and footwear (4.7% vs. 4.2%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4.3% vs. 3.9%), furnishings and household equipment (5.9% vs. 6.2%), and health (3.3% vs. 2.9%). In contrast, prices continued to fall in housing and utilities (-3.6% vs. -3.8%) and communication (-0.3% vs. -0.3%). On a monthly basis, the consumer price index rose 0.5% in June, matching the increase recorded in May.
