New Zealand Trade Surplus Below Estimates

New Zealand’s trade surplus narrowed sharply to NZD 0.02 billion in June 2026, down from NZD 0.2 billion in the same month a year earlier and falling short of market expectations of NZD 0.25 billion. The weaker balance reflected exports growing more slowly than imports. Exports increased 25% year-on-year to NZD 8.1 billion, while imports surged 28% to the same level of NZD 8.1 billion.
