Taiwan M2 Money Supply Rises to New All-Time High

Taiwan’s broad M2 money supply rose 8.13% year-on-year in June 2026 to a new record high of TWD 70,290 billion, accelerating from a 7.83% increase in May. The pickup was largely driven by faster growth in foreign currency deposits. On a monthly basis, M2 increased 0.45%, while average M2 growth for the first half of the year came in at 6.46%.

At the same time, lending and investment by all monetary institutions grew 8.80% year-on-year, slowing from 9.37% in May, reflecting weaker growth in claims on both the private sector and the government. When lending and investment by life insurance companies are included, together with collections and write-offs of bad debts transferred by all monetary institutions, overall growth eased to 7.32% from 7.80% in May.
