Brazil Loan Growth Edges Up

The stock of outstanding loans in Brazil’s financial system increased by 0.7% in June 2026 from the previous month, reaching R$7.4 trillion. Credit to corporations rose 1.5% to R$2.7 trillion, while lending to households inched up 0.2% to R$4.6 trillion. Year-on-year, total credit expanded 9.7%, slightly above the 9.6% pace recorded in May. Household lending remained the main driver, advancing 10.8% over the year, though easing from 11.2%, whereas lending to legal entities picked up to 7.9% from 6.9%. Credit with free resources totaled R$4.2 trillion, up 0.7% on the month and 7.5% from a year earlier, as firmer corporate credit partly offset a monthly drop in household credit, which still stood above its level a year before.
