US Core PCE Inflation Cools in June, Offering Fresh Relief on Price Pressures

The US Core Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index, the Federal Reserve’s preferred gauge of underlying inflation, eased notably in June 2026. Month-over-month, the core index rose just 0.1%, down from a 0.3% increase recorded in May 2026, according to data updated on 30 July 2026.

The figures indicate a clear moderation in price pressures on a month-over-month basis. While May’s 0.3% advance reflected a firmer pace of underlying inflation compared with the prior month, June’s 0.1% gain suggests that core prices are now rising at a slower clip as the summer begins. The “actual” June reading is measured against May, while the “previous” May figure represents a comparison with April, underscoring the sequential cooling in momentum.

For policymakers and markets, the softer June print adds to evidence that inflation may be gradually stabilizing after earlier stickiness in core prices. Although the data alone does not determine the Federal Reserve’s next move, the downshift from 0.3% to 0.1% on a month-over-month basis will likely be interpreted as a constructive step toward more contained underlying inflation dynamics in the United States.
