Gold Bulls Trim Exposure as CFTC Net Long Positions Edge Lower

Speculative investors in U.S. gold futures pared back their bullish bets in the latest reporting week, according to data released on 31 July 2026. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) reported that gold speculative net positions slipped to 182.1K contracts, down from 183.9K previously.

The modest decline in net long positioning suggests some investors may be locking in profits or adopting a more cautious stance, even as overall sentiment toward gold remains broadly positive. While the reduction is small, it signals a slight easing in speculative appetite for the metal, a factor closely watched by traders assessing momentum in the gold market.
