US Stocks Reignite Diverging Trend

US futures were mixed on Thursday, as steady performance in traditional economic sectors contrasted with renewed volatility in AI-related stocks following fresh earnings results. The S&P 500 was flat for a second straight session, while the Dow edged higher to notch another record. Long-term Treasury yields extended this week’s decline, moving in step with lower energy prices and signaling easing concerns that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates this year. This improvement in the macro backdrop coincided with strong corporate results: Eli Lilly held on to yesterday’s earnings-driven gains, while Johnson & Johnson and Goldman Sachs traded higher in the premarket, helping to support the Dow. By contrast, chipmakers sold off sharply, prolonging their recent swings and dragging the Nasdaq 100 down by nearly 1%. Western Digital plunged 17% after issuing disappointing guidance, and Sandisk fell almost 10% as its results failed to live up to elevated expectations for memory-chip producers.
