Canada Private Sector Activity Contracts for 2nd Month

The S&P Global Canada Composite PMI rose to 49.7 in July 2026 from 47.9 in June, indicating a second straight month of contraction in private-sector business activity, though the pace of decline eased. The improvement was driven by stronger manufacturing output, while the services sector remained in contraction. New business showed a similar split. Employment continued to grow across the private sector, but business confidence fell to its weakest level since June 2025. On the price front, both input costs and output charges rose at a faster pace.
