Latvia Current Account Gap Largest Since 2008

Latvia’s current account deficit widened to EUR 334 million in June 2026, up from EUR 266 million in the same month a year earlier, marking the largest shortfall since April 2008. The goods account deficit also increased, rising to EUR 509 million from EUR 470 million, while the primary income deficit expanded sharply to EUR 105 million from EUR 31 million a year earlier. By contrast, the services account surplus grew to EUR 182 million from EUR 160 million, and the secondary income balance improved to a surplus of EUR 97 million, compared with EUR 75 million in the corresponding period of the previous year.
