US Natural Gas Stocks Rise More Than Expected

US energy firms injected 36 billion cubic feet (bcf) of natural gas into storage in the week ending August 7, exceeding market expectations of a 31 bcf build. This compares with a 49 bcf injection in the same week a year earlier and a five-year (2021–2025) average increase of 33 bcf for that period. Total inventories rose to 3.153 trillion cubic feet, standing 0.8% below the level at the same time last year but about 6.7% above the five-year average for the week. In the previous week, which ended July 31, energy firms added 33 bcf of natural gas to storage.
