Hong Kong Stocks Rise on Healthcare, Tech Gains

The Hang Seng Index advanced 0.8%, or 188 points, to 25,685 on Thursday, lifted by strength in healthcare and technology counters. Healthcare and biotechnology names were among the top performers. Everest stood out after posting a 157.3% year-on-year surge in first-half revenue to RMB 1.15 billion and swinging to a non-IFRS net profit of RMB 97.2 million, driven largely by its NEFECON kidney-disease treatment.

Technology stocks also gained. Tencent reported a 176% year-on-year increase in second-quarter capex to RMB 52.8 billion, largely on AI-related investment, while revenue grew 11% and adjusted earnings rose 9%. Market sentiment was further underpinned by China’s decision to leave its one-year and five-year Loan Prime Rates unchanged at 3.00% and 3.50%, respectively. Global bond yields eased as well after the US Treasury doubled its long-term debt buyback program, bolstering risk appetite.

Notable movers included Tencent (+0.8%), Xiaomi (+2.7%), GenScript Biotech (+8.3%), SMIC (+1.5%) and WuXi Biologics (+4.6%).
