NZX 50 Erases Gains at Finish, Down 0.1%

New Zealand shares slipped 10 points, or 0.1%, to finish at 13,920 on Thursday, reversing early-session gains and snapping a two-day winning streak. The pullback was led by weakness in energy, consumer staples, and industrials, as investors locked in profits after the benchmark reached its highest level since August 5 and set a record high in the previous session.

Losses were partly offset by strength in communication services, financials, and healthcare, while a sharp decline in US Treasury yields and accompanying gains in US stock futures also helped limit the downside.

Notable decliners included ANZ Group (-3.3%), A2 Milk (-2.1%), Briscoe Group (-1.8%), Auckland International Airport (-1.5%), Chorus (-1.5%), and EBOS Group (-1.3%).

On the upside, Spark New Zealand, the country’s largest telecommunications provider, jumped 6.4% after reporting a 91.9% surge in net profit for H2 2026. Skellerup Holdings advanced 1.4% following a 24.2% increase in net profit.
